Utilising forest inventory data for biodiversity assessment

Currently the paradigm of sustainable forest management is extended to a broad range ecological, economic, and social functions services. In particular, biodiversity becomes more important issue in planning processes. However, its quantification, monitoring assessment still remain complex difficult although data from regional or national inventories might contribute valuable information for quantifying biodiversity. Here, we demonstrate how such can be tapped aggregated different spatial temporal scales deriving indicators support monitoring. By focusing on tree species structural related indices, our method allows evaluation variation diversity by using inventory data. We present practice-oriented approach integrate into processes thereby extend sustainability management. exemplify Bavarian State Forest Enterprise show utilised (i) assess aspects stand landscape (ii) at scales. Finally, discuss this extracted may generalised assessment, managed ecosystems.
